Old mining town located west of Denver. In a bar on the main street on the floor there is a lovely painting of a woman, it is carefully maintained by the proprietor. The story is that a distraught miner painted it when his wife died. He went into the bar and drank himself into a drunken mess, while stupefied he proceeded to paint his wife’s portrait on the floor. He painted all night and died the next day, now people claim at times you can hear the 2 talking sweetly to each other.
Our Investigation
We were there from 1:00pm - 2:50pm on Nov 24, 2002. The outside temp upon arrival was 24°F (-4.4°C). What attracted us here was the above story and also the story of the Rocky Mountain #2 IOOF Cemetery. We talked to some of the locals and were told that (the above) story was about The Face Bar, in the Teller House. When we came around the front of the Teller House, we were struck with disappointment. The sign in the window of the door read, “The Teller House is CLOSED for the 2002 Season. Please come back in May 2003!" Peaking in the windows was all we could do. We did however get some photos of miscellaneous places in the town. Driving aimlessly and being adventurous, we found the cemetery completely by accident.
