Location
The Pittington Family Cemetery is located about 100 yards west of the two-track
extension of Redstone Canyon Road (County Road 25E) that begins at a locked gate at
the end of CR 25E. The grave is north of Laurence Creek and south of Blackhurst
Gulch. Latitude and longitude coordinates are
40 degrees 35' 22" N, and 105 degrees 16' 33" W.
Description of Cemetery
The cemetery is surrounded by a 5-foot-tall white picket fence enclosing a 8-foot by
8-foot area. The cemetery contains two graves, each of which is marked by an
inscribed headstone.
The southern-most headstone (which appears to made of marble and which could be
professionally inscribed) reads as follows:
God is Love
Our Darling
[Carving of a bird, probably a dove]
In Loving Memory of Gertrude Pittington
Size of this grave indiates that Gertrude was about 4 or 5 years old.
The northern-most headstone (hand inscribed local stone) reads as
follows:
Babe's at Rest
Daughter of CM & SH Pittington
Born April 12, 1910
Since there is only a birth date on her headstone, she probably either was still
born or died shortly after birth.
